Being the last scheduled Dueling Analogs “comic” for 2010, I decided to do something a little different. On the Games I’m Glad Were Never Made… poster there is one that never actually appeared on this site. It’s entitled Pong Solitaire. Now, this “game” gets a decent amount of laughs at the conventions. So I decided that it might be interesting to actual create the game the way I imagined it would be so that you guys could play it (If you are reading this from an external site or RSS feed, you are going to have to click here in order to play it). So I did. The only problem is I think it no longer qualifies to be under the label of “Games I’m Glad Were Never Made…” anymore.
If I don’t get a chance before then, I hope everyone has a wonderful New Years and I’ll see you in 2011!

I made something like this once, except that you got points for every bounce off the wall. That, and I used neon green

See for me, the “Final Time” at the end which is your real score is also a “You Wasted This Much of Your Life Playing This” timer, as well.

Agreed. In this game, your primary enemy isn’t the wall. It’s boredom!

Great, now I’m addicted to this game.

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!! This game is infuriating. It kicked my ass in 15 seconds.

okay, so pong solitaire doesn’t exist in the way you made it, with a timer and all. However, loads of old Pong computers were shipped with 6 games on it, one of em being squash where 1 player (or 2 could play as well) was just trying to keep the ball in play

I can lose in 7 seconds wooo!

It’s predictable. The first three moves are middle, middle, top…

This is like a Pong training center. Like Tennis practice where you hit the ball against the wall.

Yay, I survived for 57 seconds before losing!

Pretty good, but it would be really cool if there were some little targets or blocks to smash as well as just the back wall. POW! SMACK! Yeah, that’d be AWESOME!

You know, I saw Leela playing something similar on her little wrist thingy in one of the recent Futurama episodes.
I mean, pong against as wall is pong against a wall, but still

Yeah I just saw that same thing last night right after I played this too.
December 31, 2010 at 12:26 pm #
I got 32 seconds!
December 31, 2010 at 3:29 pm #
i made it just short of 5 minutes before getting bored and letting myself lose

I just cracked the one-minute mark. Count it!

The only winning move is not to play.

Sorry, you didn’t invent Solitaire Pong. The 1976 Coleco Telstar Pong home system had a “handball” mode that’s essentially the same. You can check out an old commercial for it here that shows that you only missed the invention date for this game by 34 years or so ^_^: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lShU4eM8VI
