Super Mario Bros. Crossover

Super Mario Bros. Crossover

Update: Version 3.0 of Super Mario Bros. Crossover is now available. Click here to start playing!

Imagine being able to play the original Super Mario Bros. as Mega Man, Samus Aran, Simon Belmont, Link, Bill Rizer or even Mario. Dream no further because thanks to Exploding Rabbit now you can.

Super Mario Bros. Crossover is as close to a picture perfect version of the original Super Mario Bros. as you can get on the web. All the additional characters (Samus Aran from Metroid, Simon Belmont from Castlevania, Link from The Legend of Zelda, Bill Rizer from Contra and Mega Man from Mega Man) look, sound and behave as they did in their original games. Even the music for the stage changes depending on who you choose.

Which character to use and when definitely depends on the level. I highly recommend using Simon Belmont on 1-2. His throwing axe will break through most of the blocks added a brand new experience to the game.

As a classic gaming purist I cannot give this game a higher recommendation.

An excellent find. Very fun indeed, although personally i found the controls a bit counter-intuitive.

It’s the BEST thing EVER. Good work!! You should consider adding Ninja Gaiden.

    Just so you know.

Steve, you stated: “As a classic gaming purist I cannot give this game a higher recommendation.”

Considering that this is a game with more than a few cross-overs, it’s… not exactly pure.

This game is very fun, but Simon is almost impossible to use. He won’t move when jumping unless you were already moving which makes precision jumping near impossible and unless you double jump you can’t reach most things. Samus also has problems, like not being able to hit Goombas and when you go into ball mode your screwed. Also, why does getting hit remove all your powerups? That makes no sense. In the original Mario it only removed one.

Its a good game, but its got some problems that make it near unplayable.

Piffle: When Fire Flower Mario gets hit in the original Super Mario Bros., he does indeed go straight back to regular “small” Mario.

It’s a great game, but I can’t get my controller to work with it for some reason.

Personally, I find Samus and Simon difficult to use. Mega Man and Billy appear to be the most useful – and overpowered.
