Video Games Doing Nothing [ VIDEO ]

The video above is actually the second installment in the series. I decided to make it the main video on this page, because it was more jam-packed with animations. 75 idle animations spanning 50 different games in six minutes and forty seconds is a lot, but I still made sure it include the first video below.

    The earliest example of an idle animation for a video game character that I recall is for the Apple II’s Captain Goodnight (1985, Broderbund). If you didn’t move Capt. Goodnight, he would eventually pull out and start playing with a yo-yo.

    Another unmentioned idle animation is in Half-Life: Blue-Shift. If you watched a security camera for an extended period of time, one of the nerdy scientists walking by would suddenly break out into a skat dance. You can see that here:

    It was some free flash game, if I recall correctly. Don’t remember when, where, or who made it, but I do remember I couldn’t stand to play it for more than 40 seconds!
