I can absolutely vouch for Felix the Cat. That was a great game I had as a kid. I agree it's a bit easy but still very very fun to play.

As for Crystalis, I don't think it's obscure enough. I definitely remember that game when it came out and I do remember it being marketed heavily by Nintendo at the time. So anyone old enough to remember the system probably remembers the name at least, even though I doubt many people bought the game. (Sidenote: I bet a lot of people tried it when emulators got good though.)

Ah, Guardian Legend. I remember renting that game as a kid. It's not available for the Virtual Console, is it? Are any of these games?

And while Clash at Demonhead's still pretty obscure by NES standards, I think it gained a little more attention recently because of Scott Pilgrim. Fun game, though, if I recall...

I'm curious if Crystalis wasn't good enough for this list or if it isn't obscure enough. I was ready to dismiss the entire list when he got to #2 and hadn't mentioned either Crystalis or The Guardian Legend. It might not be the best game ever, but it was certainly ahead of its time, holding up about as well as the first Zelda game.

I giggled like a little girl when I saw TGL at number one. I still consider the Guardian to be my second or third favorite heroine in gaming.

I'm a little annoyed that he repeatedly called Naju a "space ship", though, when there's very little reason to think it is (in-game it's called a "star", but I suspect the Japanese word used is a generic term for "celestial body", meaning it's probably a planet or moon-turned asteroid).

The Landers can survive in space and are possibly interdimensional lifeforms (see basically every other NES Compile game). They probably aren't even the original inhabitants.

1. Are you sure the Felix game isn't based ONLY on the 1950s cartoon? His magic bag of tricks was from that, not the original silent cartoons. Unless he did funny things with his tail, i don't think the black and white Felix cartoon had anything to do with it.

2. Bucky O'Hare was actually a comic book before it became a cartoon. It was a lot better than the cartoon actually.
