I already shared this on Twitter, but I decided to ask my two daughters if they knew what a Game Boy was this weekend. My youngest said, “No.” and my oldest told me, “It’s a boy that loves games.” I responded, “Really?!” After my response, she wanted to know what it was. So I showed her a photo of one on Google to which she responded, “OH… That’s that thing you have in your office. Can I play it?”
I can understand why she doesn’t know what one is. The final installment in the Game Boy lineup was the Game Boy Micro and that came out in 2005. The last year Nintendo offered the Game Boys for retail, was in 2008 and she was way too young to remember that.
At least they knows what a Nintendo Entertainment System is. So I haven’t completely failed as a parent.
