Stop and Smell the Roses

It’s really sad to see how far Sonic the Hedgehog has fallen over the years. Back in the 90’s he was everyone’s favorite little Erinaceinae. Now he’s the perpetual butt of jokes. Sure, people make fun of Mario, but Nintendo still pops out one good Mario game after another. Sonic’s track record since Sonic Adventure has been average at best. Poor, poor Sonic…

Heh, honestly, I really liked Colors and Generations. I wouldn’t call them average.

I wouldn’t call Sonic Generations or Sonic Colors bad, but not overly great either.

Now Sonic 4 on the other hand, Sonic ’06 (which was an attempt to reboot Adventure, but greatly failed), or Sonic Secret Rings, Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood, Black Knight, Riders and Lost World… those lie on a whole different ballpark.

Then again, Mario isn’t anything better. Cat Suits? Over and over recycled “party” games? A “Luigi” spinoff? Come on!

Super Mario 3D World is a really good game with fresh ideas. At first I didn’t want to play it after the 27th New Super Mario Bros., but the game surprised me with its…… AWESOMENESS

Actually, i find it funny. Mario fans are much more dependent on nostalgia than Sonic’s ones. All Nintendo does is “Super” for prefix and “64” for suffix, they’re pretty much the same game ever. I liked Mario back then, but now i just don’t care.
The only thing that saddened me was that Star Fox fell into the “64” limbo…

The best game Sonic has been in for years was SSBB.

Sonic hasn’t been in a 2D physics based platformer since the Genesis, so it isn’t all that surprising that opinions have differed on every game released since.

For me, the only game I’ve really enjoyed post Mega Drive would be Sonic CD HD. I thought Sonic CD was kind of mediocre, but for some reason the HD version really clicked with me.

I seem to remember a couple of new 2D sonic games coming out not too long ago… saw them on OUYA or something…
