Galaxy Man Hates Universe Man

I so wish I could take credit for the originality of Mario’s face in the final panel, but that credit goes to Egoraptor. Up until Friday, the final panel of this comic was just going to be an angry Mario flicking off an off-panel Mega Man. But after posting Awesome Center Redux here on Friday I felt that that would be a much better visual.

So you already know about Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, which was released yesterday. Well, Capcom registered the trademark Mega Man Universe. For what reason, well that part is unknown right now. We do know that Capcom is working on a Mega Man MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game), but that’s going to be called Mega Man Online or MMO for short. Clever. Mega Man Universe might be another anthology or just Capcom registering the trademark to hold onto it. Who knows? As of right now it’s all pure speculation.

I let Egoraptor know about this comic and I just got a positive response which included a *brofist*.

The comic tied with the headline had me laughing for half a minute. Thank you.

The last panel is a reaction face from the Egoraptor Awesome series, the Trauma Center one.
The internet (esp. imageboards) receives yet another reaction face it already has

Capcom never learns, do they? stop milking a good franchise before it dies…oh wait megaman died when they tried doing an RPG which is lame, and after X4 the other X series are rather boring…they did good on megaman 9 and 10… but they never learn as any day now were going to see a new version of Street Fighter 4…what ever happened to Breath of Fire?

Malakav, I’m gonna have to disagree with you. Battle Network was pretty damn fun, even if it didn’t QUITE hit its stride until 2. X? Yyyyyyeah X really declined, but at least X8 was nice (and Command Mission!) and those games ultimately led to the Zero series.

Yeah, that’s the best rage face ever

I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t think that face is funny, nice touch/homage there, man.

And yeah, Battle Network is a pretty damn awesome action RPG series. MM Starforce on the other way…

@Malakav: I’d rather they didn’t leave them alone. Mega Man X and Mega Man Legends are two of my favourite series of games. If they had of decided to just ‘leave the classics alone’ Mega Man would be just another three game series that rocked in the NES era (probably scoring a gritty failed reboot in 2009).
The newer anime for western kids Mega Man games aren’t my cup of tea, but I’ve got close to 20 good Mega Man games thanks to Capcom’s willingness to keep a series going and mix it up when it needs it.

@Malakav: Well, being that Zero series is among the best Megaman games ever, I’m going to disagree. It’s everything good from the first three X games with none of the bothersome things from later and mixed up with a new set of mechanics that control like a dream. Even ZX is damn good, mixing it up with Metroidvania elements, if a tad uninspired.

So no, Megaman isn’t going worse at all.

The MMO thing makes me both curious and filled with dread, though…

Mmm, I don’t see a traditional rpg working if they really do take mega man into the realm of big name assholes who like to rape you of money. Unless…nah that would be too smart of them. If they used a set up similar in control scheme and so forth like they did in Mega Man Legends (hell even the same setting, but that’s perhaps too wishful on my part) it could be doable. Pretty sure it wouldn’t be too hard to work in different ways to switch equipment or even go a little old school and set him up with the ability to absorb big name enemy powers. Otherwise…well otherwise we risk stupidity common in the later X games or the completely pointless setting of the originals. Seriously, Dr. Wily should have been put to death the first time they nailed his ass to the wall, let alone after he escapes what, the 4th time? Ugh my brain.

“After a while, clearly Wily’s escapes and captures were a parody of themselves, it isn’t like Capcom doesn’t do that. I just started playing Dead Rising… All the Zombies in the room say… ‘MISS TRON!’ Yeah…”

I was gonna say something about you using Mario and Megaman in a comic and no one else, but MEGAMAN ONLINE?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?! :O
